TEA – The Everyday Adventure

Oh hi!

Welcome to The Everyday Adventure. For several years now, I’ve had friends and family tell me that I should document some of my adventures, but I’ve always told myself that “I’m not a good writer.”  Well, I’m not going to let that stop me, so I decided the time is right to start sharing! Let me start by telling you a little bit about me. (Wow, that sounds like the start of every job interview I’ve ever had or conducted)

I’m “just a small-town girl” (haha). Seriously though, my name is Megan and I’m from a tiny town in Southern Illinois. When I was little, I never thought I would leave Jonesboro.  I didn’t travel all that much growing up.  We went to Disney World a couple of times. Once when I was 5 and again when I was in 5th grade. On that first trip, I will always remember complaining about being tired of waiting in line to get into a taping of the “Win, Lose or Draw” game show. I was sooooo thirsty so my dad took me and my cousin to get a drink and we missed getting to get into the filming. Oops, my Bad. We made a trip to Nashville and Opryland one summer. We also had season tickets to Bristol Motor Speedway for the NASCAR races and went every August for several years. I had some softball tournaments that took us out of state, but that was about the extent of the travel. Looking at it now, we traveled a little more than I realized.

I loved my little town, and I pictured myself staying in Southern Illinois. However, when I was in college, all that changed. I got an internship opportunity 600 miles from home in Concord, NC. I love my family and we’re all very close, but leaving Jonesboro was probably one of the best things that happened to me. It was the start of MANY adventures.

I was a bit of a homebody-type when I first started living on my own, but luckily, I had adventurous friends which helped me start branching out and exploring.  This sparked “the list”. I don’t exactly remember when I started it, but I decided to start a list.  Some would call it a bucket list, but I just call it a list. It’s full of places I want to go, things I want to see and do. Every year I try to knock a few things off and add some new ideas. Currently, this list sits at 163 items. Of those 163, I’ve knocked off 24 things. (Yikes, I need to get busy on some of these!)

This blog will take you on my adventures as I work on The List. It will be a mix of past adventures like that time I was in the audience of the Price Is Right, or when I thought running a half marathon would be great idea (side note – I am not a runner) or buying my first home or jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. I already have some pretty fun stories to share and hope you enjoy reading about them.  I’ll share what I’ve learned and my advice for future adventurers. I promise I have some very entertaining stories about big adventures and everyday life, and I’ll keep it very real, usually at my expense. Haha! One thing about adventures, things don’t always go as planned.

It’s all about Go, See, Do.  If 2020 taught us anything, it’s to take advantage of opportunities when you have them. I try and do that every chance I get.
